We have three cats. Luly (16 old boy black cat), Coco (5 month old girl tabby cat) and Momo (5 month old girl white cat). Momo and Coco are sisters.
うちには猫が3匹います。ルリ（16歳の黒猫おじいにゃん）、ココ（5か月のトラネコ）、そしてモモ（5か月の白猫）で、モモとココは姉妹です。
I never had a pet growing up, so when Luly started to live with us, I didn’t know what to do with him. One night I found him sleeping in our bed, on my side, I slept on the couch so that Luly could sleep in bed. Later it turned out, as Dave has pointed that out to me many times since then, to be a terrible move to make. So I’m the bottom of the hierarchy.
わたしは子どものころペットと暮らしたことがなかったので、ルリが我が家にやってきたとき、どうしたらいいのかわからず、ある夜ベッドを譲ってしまったことがありました。ルリをベッドに寝かせてわたしはカウチで寝たのですね。 いまだにあれが良くなかったんだとDaveに言われますが、、、それ以来ルリ的ヒエラルキーにおいてわたしは底辺にいます。下僕ね、下僕。
Luly wakes me up 2-3 times every night asking for some fried fish flakes. No, it’s not “asking,” really; it’s more like “demanding,” because he doesn’t stop scratching my face with his claws until I get up and give him what he wants. He comes to wake me even when Dave is awake and around. That’s how I know I’m at the bottom.
ルリは毎晩2～3回わたしを起こしに来ます。かつおぶしちょうだい～って。いや、ちょうだいっていうより「よこせ」って感じか。わたしが起きるまで顔をひっかき続けるのでね。。。ちなみにDaveが起きて近くにいても、寝ているわたしをわざわざ起こしに来ます。下僕だからね！
Momo likes people. She likes to sleep with or around someone, even my 10-year-old son who is like an annoying brother to her. She likes to be picked up and pet.
モモは人が好き。お昼寝するときも人とくっついて寝るか、人の近くで寝ることが多いです。ちょっかいを出してくる10歳の息子にも懐いているという驚き。抱っこして撫でてもらうのが好きです。
Dave used to say he is a dog person but I think he is a cat person now.
Daveは犬派だとずっと言っていたけれど、今は猫派に改宗した（とわたしは思っている）。
Traditional Japanese houses have these paper sliding doors, which don’t go well with cats, obviously. Our house looks miserable.
猫と障子の相性よ。我が家はすっかりみすぼらしい姿に。
Coco is more independent. She likes to play with Momo, but doesn’t come to us humans as much as Momo does. She even watches TV on her own (just kidding).
ココはもっとツンツンしています。モモとはよく遊ぶけれど、モモほど人懐っこくはない。一人でテレビも観れちゃうもんね（うそだけど）。
Our house and is a mess, so is the furniture. I have to clean up 4 cat toilets every morning. I have to get up and feed the cats in the middle of the night. They need to be vaccinated, which costs money. But they are too adorable to resist.
障子も襖もカウチもボロボロだし、毎朝家に4つあるネコトイレのお掃除もしないといけないし、夜中に起きておやつをあげないといけないし、ワクチンやら手術やらでお金もかかるんだけれど、この可愛さですべて帳消し。
